Ingredients

The predecessor to the Negroni, the Americano was originally created in Gaspare Campari's bar in the 1860s. Originally known as the Milano-Torino, taking the name from the origins of the two ingredients – Campari from Milan and Cinzano from Turin. The name was then changed to the Americano when it was made popular by American tourists visiting Italy during the Prohibition era.

Glass: 10 oz rocks

1 oz sweet vermouth
1 oz Campari
Ice cubes
Soda water
Orange slice, to garnish

Method

Add the vermouth and Campari to an ice-filled rocks glass and top with soda water.

Garnish

Garnish with a slice of orange.
